I'm going to climb one of the tall mountains. Though I have earlier climbed small mountains but it would be my first time climbing a tall one. Therefore, I need advice. Should I wear gloves when climbing?

Wearing climbing gloves can protect your hands from calluses, scrapes, and rope burns, especially during long or rough climbs. Gloves are particularly useful when handling rough surfaces or when you're dealing with harsh weather conditions. They provide a layer of protection that can prevent injury and make your climb more comfortable.

While climbing gloves can provide extra comfort by reducing friction on your hands, they can also improve grip, especially on colder days when your hands might be stiff. Gloves with rubberized palms are designed to enhance grip, making it easier to hold onto rocks or ropes, especially in more technical or cold weather conditions.

Many climbers prefer not to wear climbing gloves during rock climbing or bouldering because gloves can interfere with tactile sensitivity and grip. Bare hands allow you to feel holds and textures more precisely, which is crucial for certain climbs. It's generally better to skip gloves when you're climbing outdoors on natural rock formations unless you're doing rope work or the weather is particularly harsh.

When engaging in rope climbing, particularly with activities like rappelling or belaying, gloves can be very beneficial. They protect your hands from rope burns and abrasions that can occur during tension or when handling ropes. Ropes can also become slick or abrasive, and gloves help maintain a secure grip and provide extra durability for your hands.

If you're doing heavy rope work or aid climbing, gloves are a good choice for safety and comfort. They can prevent blisters from rope friction and allow you to grip carabiners and anchors more effectively. Some climbers even wear gloves to avoid chafing and pressure from harnesses or ropes, ensuring a safer and more comfortable climbing experience.

Wearing climbing gloves ultimately comes down to personal preference. Some climbers swear by gloves for extra protection, while others prefer the tactile feel of bare hands. If you're a beginner or climbing in a new environment, gloves might help build confidence and protect your hands as you get accustomed to different climbing surfaces and techniques.
