A while back, I had to figure out how to check the booking class for a British Airways flight after I realized my frequent flyer miles weren’t adding up the way I expected. At first, I had no idea what a “booking class” even was—I just thought economy was economy! Turns out, the booking class determines not only how many points you earn but also how flexible your ticket is for changes and cancellations.
When I booked through a travel site, the confirmation email didn’t clearly show the class. So, I went directly to the British Airways website and logged into the “Manage My Booking” section using my booking reference and last name. Once inside, I clicked on the flight details and saw a single letter next to the fare type—that letter was my booking class. For example, mine was “O,” which meant it was a discounted economy fare with limited flexibility.
After learning this, I started paying more attention before purchasing tickets. If I wanted to be able to change my flight easily, I’d look for a higher fare class. It’s a small detail that can make a big difference, especially if your travel plans often change like mine tend to do.
