When preparing for a backpacking trip, what are the most important items I should pack to stay comfortable, safe, and prepared for different travel situations?

For a backpacking trip, it’s important to pack light but carry essentials like a sturdy backpack, water bottle or filter, lightweight tent or shelter, sleeping bag, basic cooking gear, energy food, first-aid kit, map or GPS, flashlight, weather-appropriate clothing, and a power bank so you stay prepared and safe during the trip.

I just got back from a 2-week solo hike in the Appalachian Trail and I wanted to add that I also packed a portable water filter as it was a lifesaver when my water bottle got contaminated from a stream with a high bacterial count. It's an extra lightweight item that's definitely worth considering, especially if you're planning to camp near water sources or hike through areas prone to flooding.
