I'm planning a road trip to Utah and the Bonneville Salt Flats are definitely on my list of must-see attractions. I appreciate the info in this thread about the various activities visitors can do at the Flats, from speeding down the salt flats to taking in the stunning scenery and unique landscape. I'm also interested in learning more about the speed record attempts and the history of the area, does anyone have any recommendations for books or documentaries about the subject?
Honestly, the best time is late summer or early fall when the flats are dry. You can walk or drive across the salt, take those surreal mirror-like photos, and if you’re lucky you might even catch a land speed event at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
