How old is New York City historically?

I found the history of New York City really interesting in that thread, especially the fact that it was originally a Dutch colony called New Amsterdam which dates back to 1624. I also appreciated the mention of Fort Amsterdam being built in 1626, setting the stage for the English takeover in 1664 which led to a name change to New York.

New York City has a rich history dating back to 1624 when the Dutch founded the colony of New Amsterdam on the southern tip of Manhattan. The British took control in 1664, renaming it New York after the Duke of York. The city continued to grow and evolve over the centuries, with significant events like the American Revolution and the Great Fire of 1835 shaping its development.
