Yep, checked bags aren’t free unless you have status or the right credit card. I got charged when flying to Anchorage with winter gear because there was no way that stuff was fitting into a carry-on.
It’s pretty much the same pricing you see with other U.S. airlines, so nothing surprising. I just try to pack lighter when possible to skip the fee.
