Can Americans travel to Russia currently?

Yes, it is possible to travel to Russia, but it is strongly discouraged by Americans. The U.S. government discourages traveling because of the security risks, the reduced services of the embassy, and possible harassment or detention. The requirements to visas will not go away and the conditions of travel may alter abruptly.

Any Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory against Russia is already issued by the U.S. State Department. As a result of the continuing warfare, the danger of false imprisonment, and weak support of the American embassies, Americans are advised not to travel at all and leave as soon as possible.

As of now, Americans can technically travel to Russia if they obtain a valid Russian visa before departure, but the U.S. government strongly advises against travel due to safety risks, war‑related dangers, possible harassment or wrongful detention, and limited U.S. consular assistance. U.S. citizens already in Russia are urged to leave immediately
