What should I know before driving to Chicago?

I’m planning to drive to Chicago—what should I know about routes, traffic, tolls, and the best time to arrive?

If you can, try arriving outside peak hours (7–9 AM, 4–6:30 PM). I-90 and I-94 get packed fast. Also, get an E-ZPass or I-PASS for tolls it’ll save you time and stress.

Before driving to Chicago, know parking rules, toll roads (E-ZPass recommended), heavy traffic during rush hours, winter weather challenges, strict speed enforcement, and downtown congestion. Plan routes, check weather forecasts, and budget for parking fees.
