When I first started flying Southwest regularly, I was super confused trying to figure out how much Business Class cost. I kept seeing “Business Select” fares and thought that was the same thing as a traditional Business Class ticket — with bigger seats, meals, and all that. Spoiler: it’s not quite the same thing, but it’s still a solid upgrade depending on your travel needs.
Last spring, I flew from Denver to Orlando for a work trip and decided to test it out. The Business Select fare was about $150 more than the standard “Wanna Get Away” fare, which felt like a lot at first. But after using it, I understood the value. It got me priority boarding (Group A1–A15), a free premium drink, and extra Rapid Rewards points — plus the ability to change or cancel without stress. When I arrived at the airport late that morning, I skipped the long lines and was in my seat within minutes. That alone was worth the upgrade.
So, while Southwest doesn’t technically have “Business Class” with fancy recliners or meal service, Business Select is their top-tier option. Prices vary depending on the route — sometimes it’s only $50 more, sometimes closer to $200. I’d say it’s worth it for short business trips or when you need flexibility, but for casual travel, the cheaper fares still get you great service.
I’ve since used it a few more times, especially on busy travel days, and honestly, that early boarding peace of mind is priceless.
