Can I cancel one leg, one passenger, or award bookings on Air Canada?

I actually had to deal with this exact situation last spring when traveling with my sister on Air Canada. We booked our flights together using Aeroplan points, but a week before the trip she had a work commitment come up. I was panicked because I wasn’t sure if you could cancel just one leg of the trip, or even just one passenger, without messing up the entire reservation.

I first tried to figure it out online, but the website wasn’t very clear about mixed award bookings. Some legs were with Air Canada, others were with a partner airline, and I didn’t want to risk losing all my points if I clicked the wrong thing. That’s when I called (877)-764-3622, and honestly, it was the smoothest part of the whole process. The rep walked me through step by step—first verifying that I could cancel just my sister’s segment while keeping mine intact, and then explaining the fees and point refunds depending on the fare class.

In my case, they refunded her points and taxes right back into the account within a couple of days. So yes—you can cancel one leg or one passenger, but calling that number saved me from a big headache.
